RIVERDALE, N.Y. - In spite of a career scoring performance from transfer
Isabella Posset (Robert Morris), the St. Francis women's basketball team fell to Manhattan, 66-74, on the road in the season opener.
The Terriers were able to shake a slow start and outscore the Jaspers, 47-44, in the second half, but the late surge was not enough to overcome a 19-30 halftime deficit.
Posset drove the St. Francis offense in her debut performance under head
Linda Cimino; scoring 22 points on 7 of 11 shooting from the field (4 of 7 from three point range), adding four assists, four steals and two rebound in 36 minutes on the court.
She was one of two Terriers in double digit scoring: fifth-year forward
Ally Lassen added 14 points, her second most in a season opener, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
2020-21 NEC Rookie of the Year
Fruzsina Horvath came off the bench to contribute a team-high 8 rebounds, second-most of all players, and nine points.
Four others made an offensive impact in the opener: starting guard
Alyssa Fisher (8 pts, 3 stl, 2 ast, 2 reb),
Khaleah Edwards (7 pts, 2 rebs, 2 ast),
Nevena Dimitrijevic (4 pts, 2 ast, 1reb), and
Eszter Varga (2 pts, 1 ast, 1 reb).
St. Francis was able to parlay the team's 12 steals to 14 points off turnovers, leading the game in that category, as well as fast break points (9-0) and points off the bench (11-9).
NEXT UP: The Terriers make their first road trip outside the Five Boroughs on Saturday, Nov. 13, to face Michigan in Ann Arbor. The game can be streamed on
