PREVIEW: Women's Basketball Hosts Mount St. Mary's for Top Three Conference Match-up

The Terriers are looking for their 10th conference win of the season.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - With just two weeks left in the regular season, the St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball team (13-8, 9-4 NEC) is set to host one of its main challengers for second place in the conference standings, Mount St. Mary's (10-10, 8-5 NEC).

The Terriers come into Thursday night's contest having won two games on the trot against Sacred Heart and LIU, and will look to take the season series over the Mountaineers after a 62-59 away win back in early January.

LAST TIME OUT

Long Island University 73 | St. Francis Brooklyn 82 - The Terriers won their sixth consecutive Battle of Brooklyn against LIU. It was a competitive game that was decided in the last few possessions, and ultimately the Terriers came up with the big plays to earn their 13th win of the season. Isabella Posset and Alyssa Fisher were the standout performers on the night.

Both took Co-MVP honors, and subsequently were honored by the Northeast Conference in its Weekly Awards. Isabella Posset, who scored a season high 22 points against LIU, was Player of the Week, while Fisher scored 18 points and was a Prime Performer.

Wagner 51 | Mount 53 - The Mountaineers won a close game that came down to the very last possession, but Wagner's game winning attempt was off the mark. It was a stingy, defensive affair with both teams finishing the game below their average field goal percentages for the season. Three Mountaineers finished the game in double digit scoring, including Kayla Agentowicz, Aryna Taylor and leading scorer Kendall Bresee (12). Bresee is the NEC's top scorer this season, averaging 15.5 PPG.

St. Francis Brooklyn and Mount last played each other on Jan. 8 when the Terriers secured a three point win at the Knott Arena. The Terriers trailed by three points heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored the hosts 22-16 in the final period to come out on top. Ally Lassen was the focal point of the offense that night with 20 field goal attempts, and a team high 19 points.

If the numbers are any indication, look for Thursday's contest to be a high scoring shootout. The Mountaineers and the Terriers possess the conference's number one and number two scoring offenses respectively. But the Terriers will draw confidence from their defensive record as well, as their 61.6 points allowed is currently good for third in the NEC.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Daniel Lynch '38 Gymnasium in Brooklyn Heights and the game can be streamed on NEC Front Row.
