PROVIDENCE, RI - For the second consecutive year, the St. Francis Brooklyn men's water polo team ends its season in Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Championship.
The two-seed Terriers knocked off six-seed MIT and three-seed Harvard en route to its second straight appearance in the conference title game. This is the ninth appearance in the NWPC Championship in program history.
St. Francis was the runners up in five of those appearances; including on Sunday as the Terriers fell short to one-seed Princeton, 8-13, in a rematch of the 2021 title game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Terriers were working out of a hole for the entirety of the first half. After being held scoreless in the first half, Aleksa Sisakovic got the Terriers on the board with 4:20 to play in the second quarter on the man advantage.
Back in the pool after the halftime break, St. Francis worked to cut into the Princeton lead to 6-3 off a pair of quick goals by Paul Armingol in 49 seconds. Ioannis Egnatiadis tacked on another goal at the end of the period to make it an 8-4 Tiger advantage in the final quarter.
Despite adding four goals in the final period, the Terriers were not able to overcome Princeton as the Tigers emerged victorious.
St. Francis finishes the year with a 21-10; scoring its most wins in a season since 2013 and making it a second consecutive NWPC Championship appearance.
