BRONX, NY - The St. Francis Brooklyn men's water polo team will roll into the Northeast Water Polo Conference (NWPC) Tournament on a three-match win streak after closing out the regular season with a 14-11 win over 18th-ranked Fordham.
The win over the Rams marks two in the last three meetings and the second consecutive win in the Bronx.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Terriers took their first lead of the match with 2:16 remaining in the first half as William Simpson took advantage of man advantage to take a 2-1 lead. Adonis Vlassis secured a 3-2 Terrier lead as time expired in the first period.
The second period would be the most successful for St. Francis, outscoring the Rams 5-3. Baptiste Oliveri clinched back-to-back goals on the heels of a two-meter penalty with 5:45 left in the period. Josep Jodra Munoz put St. Francis us 8-5 headed to halftime.
Despite the Rams pulling back a goal in the third period, the Terriers extended their lead to as many as four goals in the final period when Simpson scored again on the man advantage with 4:31 to go.
They ended the regular seasons with a 14-11 victory; marking the Terriers win over a ranked opponent this season.
NEXT UP: St. Francis secured the three seed in the Northeast Water Polo Conference Tournament, beginning Nov. 18. The Terriers will face six-seed MIT at 5:00 p.m. at tournament host Brown in Providence, R.I. The match will stream live on ESPN+.
