BRONX, N.Y. - The St. Francis men's water polo team began their preparation for the NEWPC Championship Tournament with an away contest at No. 16 Fordham Friday evening. The Terriers were able to play spoilers on senior day, knocking off the Rams 13-7.
This game was for the bragging rights of New York City and the St Francis Men's Water Polo team was up to the challenge in front of racous crowd of Rams supporters, and Terrier faithful making the trip to the Rose Hill campus.
After the senior day festivities concluded, the Terriers immediately went to work. Racing out to an early 3-1 first quarter lead, an advantage they would never relinquish. The Terriers never looked back winning the game in wire to wire fashion.
The Terriers were once again led on defense by their goalie
Djordje Stoiljkovic, who finished the game with 17 saves, he also chipped in with 2 steals and an assist.
Offensively, the Terriers stymied the Rams with a balanced attack.
Adonis Vlassis recorded four goals, two assists and five steals,
Aleksa Sisakovic tallied two goals two assists and five drawn ejections. Finally, rounding out the attack,
Dominik Hevesi chipped in with two goals, two assists, two ejections drawn and a steal.
The coaching staff was most pleased by the Terrier intensity throughout the match which was evident from the start of the contest to the games conclusion.
With conference playoffs approaching Nov. 19-21, the Terriers team's confidence level is at its highest level going into the NEWPC Championships. The tournament will be contested at Princeton, where the Terriers take on the MIT Beavers Nov. 19 at 5 p.m. Should the Terriers get past MIT, they would advance to the semifinals and be slated to take on rival Harvard or Connecticut College on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 2 p.m.
