PRINCETON, NJ – The St. Francis College Brooklyn men's water polo team (5-3) tallied a 2-2 record over four matches at the Tiger Invitational. The Terriers fell to UC San Diego in the opening game of the tournament, then tied together back-to-back wins over Wagner and George Washington respectively, before falling to Fordham in the last contest of the weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 6 | UC San Diego – 11
- The Terriers fell behind in the very first quarter of the game, with the Tritons taking a three-goal lead.
- The Brooklynites tried to catch up but were unable to surpass the gap set in the beginning of the game.
- The Terriers offense was led by Zane Drobenko and Dominick Hevesi, with two goals apiece.
- Additional tallies were added by Boris Posavec and Nikola Nikolic.
- In excellent center plays, William Simpson and Vladimir Mickic both drew three ejections for the team
St. Francis Brooklyn – 17 | Wagner – 13
- In their second contest, the Terriers came out strong as they controlled a four-goal lead over the Seahawks.
- Throughout the game, Wagner battled from behind, but the Terriers managed to keep the lead until the final buzzer.
- The Terriers' offense was led by William Lapkin and Ivan Stefanovic who both scored five goals apiece.
- Simpson and Matheus Santos each added two tallies.
- The remaining goals were added by Ricardo Berenguer, Mickic, and Luka Budak
St. Francis Brooklyn – 10 | George Washington – 6
- The Terriers controlled the match over the first three frames.
- At the beginning of the final stanza, the score stood at 9-3 in favor of the Terriers.
- George Washington managed to put together a comeback in the last quarter as it outscored the Terriers' 3-1. St. Francis held on to earn a 10-6 triumph and its second win in a row.
- Mickic led the offense with an impressive four goals. Lapkin and Stefanovic as they each rattled the cage twice.
- The remaining goal scorers were Posavec and Nikolic.
St. Francis Brooklyn – 14 | Fordham – 19
- Fordham took an early lead in the final contest of the Tournament and continued to build on in throughout the duration of the match.
- For a brief moment at the beginning of the third period, the Terriers seemingly managed to come back in the game, only for Fordham to go on and close the game out.
- Goal scorers for the Terriers included: Mickic (5), Hevesi (3), Stefanovic (3), Posavec (1), Simpson (1), Lapkin (1).
