BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The St. Francis Brooklyn men's volleyball team secured the season sweep over Fairleigh Dickinson in their first season facing off with a Tuesday night win.
The Terriers (9-9, 3-7 EIVA) made quick work of the Knights (5-11) in the Genovesi Center with a second 3-0 win over FDU.
In the opening set, St. Francis kicked off the action with a 6-2 and forcing FDU to take the first timeout of the match. The Terriers were the first to 15 when the Knights over pass went long, giving SFBK a 15-9 lead.
The hosts secured the 25-21 win in the first, hitting 46.2% along the way.
After going down 10-7 early, David Vorfi tied the game at 11 with his sixth kill of the game at that point. An attack error by FDU's Artem Vetrov put the home team back in front 12-11. The second set would prove to be an efficient one on offense, hitting 50.0% and winning 25-18.
Jack Hershman led the way in the second with 4 kills and 1 dig.
The third set played out even through the first 18 points. With FDU up 10-9, Aramis Rodriguez Ayala dove to keep the point alive and opened up for a Vorfi kill; tying things up again, at 10-10.
Bartek Zielinski and Hershman combined for back-to-back kills to extend the home lead to 16-13, its highest of the third set, and forced a Knights timeout.
With victory in sight, James Henneberry kicked off the final stretch with the last kill of the game, and the Terriers clinched the win 25-18.
