Men's Volleyball Secures 3-1 Win Over Edward Waters (FL) in First-Time Meeting

The Terriers play again Friday against SUNY New Paltz.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - In another match-up of first time opponents for the St. Francis Brooklyn men's volleyball team, the Terriers scored a win over Edward Waters (FL), 3-1, on Tuesday night.

The Terriers opened with an 11-7 lead coming out of the first timeout of the match. After Bartek Zielinski's block kept the point alive, the Tigers' over pass was dumped back over the net again by Zielinski for the point, as St. Francis went up 15-9.

St. Francis went on to take the 25-15 first set win. Andrea Lancianese was a perfect 6-6 on the attack in the set. Zielinski totaled five of his own.

Edward Waters kicked off the set strong with a pair of consecutive kills to tie things at 2-2, but Lancianese quickly put the Terriers back in front on the next point.

The home team found its momentum soon after as Vorfi and Zielinski stood strong on the right side, combining for two blocks and a kill as the Terriers went up 9-6.

The Tigers fought back to tie the game at 11, and gave the Terriers the best effort of the match so far in the set; closing as late as 22-21.

A late Vorfi and EWU attack error put St. Francis up 2-0 with a 25-22 win.

In set three, Timothy Walsh's first kill since the season opener would tie the game at 4-4. The Terriers went up 11-9 on a shot from Lancianese that fell perfectly out of reach of the Tigers.

EWU forced a Terrier timeout in the third as they took a 18-16 lead. Walsh came up big out of the timeout with a pancake dig that kept the play alive for a Lancianese kill to come within one of the lead.

The Tigers scored three straight from there. Faced with a 24-20 deficit at set point, the Terriers clawed two back, but fell 22-25.

The fourth set was a different start from the end of the third. The Terriers opened up on a 6-0 run, prompting the Tigers first timeout of the set. Four different Terriers record kills in that stretch.

SFBK remained strong despite the late Edward Waters push in the fourth, and held on for a 25-22 win in the fourth set and 3-1 match win.
