Men's Volleyball Comes Up Short Against Harvard

David Vorfi led the team in kills with 14.

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, N.Y. - The St. Francis Brooklyn men's volleyball team ran into a tough opponent in Harvard on Friday night.

The Terriers (9-10, 3-8 EIVA) made the Crimson (10-9, 8-3) work, but ultimately fell in straight sets.

In the opening set, with the score tied at four, David Vorfi found a delicate dink over the net to give the Terriers the advantage. The teams continued trading blows.

Later in the set, SFBK called time with the score 20-17 Harvard, but the visitors won the next point to take a four point cushion. Despite seven kills for Vorfi in the set, the Crimson took the opener 25-19.

In the all important second set, the teams split the first eight points, but then the visitors rallied off four straight to create breathing room. They maintained that advantage throughout the set, and eventually pulled away to win it by a 12 point margin.

The hosts got off to a better start in the third, taking the first two points. With the score tied at seven, Dominick Pikura made the kill to put the Terriers ahead. The teams were going back and forth once again, with the visitors just about keeping their noses in front.

The Terriers finally took a 20-19 lead with a kill from Pikura. After Harvard tied, James Henneberry answered with a successful spike of his own to restore the advantage. But the Crimson rallied once again, and took the third 25-22 for a straight sets victory.
