Box Score WEST WINDSOR, NJ – #1 seeded St. Francis Brooklyn men's tennis took on #4 LIU in the Northeast Conference semifinals on Saturday morning, defeating the Sharks for the second time this season to reach the final. The 4-2 victory vaulted the Terriers to the NEC Championship match for the second time in three years.
In doubles, the Terriers won two matches to grab an early 1-0 lead. Lucas Foix Sotos and Matheus Paiva coasted to a 6-2 win in their matchup and Assil Boussayri and Habib Stambouli followed with a 6-4 victory. The No. 2 doubles duo of Jan Godfrey Seno and Luis Foix Sotos were up 5-4 when the first point was claimed.
No. 1-3 singles all won to get the Terriers to their all-important fourth point. Seno led off with a 6-3, 6-3 win and Boussayri also won his matchup in two sets (6-4, 6-3). Stambouli needed to win a first-set tiebreaker before running away with the second frame to claim an individual victory and the team's victory.
LIU won two matches and one remained unfinished, but it wasn't enough as the Terriers battled their way to a title opportunity on Sunday.
