QUEENS, NY - The St. Francis Brooklyn men's tennis kicked off their fall slate on Sept. 10 at the Alan Landes Invitational, hosted by Queens College (QC).
The tournament was separated into two doubles brackets and six singles brackets, as the Terriers competed against the Knights, Adelphi and St. Thomas Aquinas.
St. Francis walked away victorious in both doubles brackets and made the final in four of the singles brackets.
In the "A" bracket, reigning All-Conference Second Team honoree Jan Godfrey Seno and fellow returner Luis Foix Sotos knocked off Viktor Hockl and Reece Farrow (Adelphi), 6-2, Cameron Henricy and Kareem Rashad(Queens), 7-6 (8-6), and Roni Rikkonen and Moritz Borges (Queens), 6-4.
The Terriers team in the "B" bracket, Lucas Foix Sotos and Matheus Paiva, advanced to the semifinals where they eliminated the QC team of Mariano Biblioni and Lucas Demuth, 6-3. The pair took victory in the bracket with a 6-2 win over the Knights' Tim Ostheimer and Philipp Uhde, 6-2.
Four singles competitors reached the finals of their brackets on Saturday.
In his first competition with St. Francis, Diego Garcia Gil defeated teammate Seno to advance to the final game of the bracket. He defeated Queens' Cameron Henricy, 6-3, 6-2, to win the "A" bracket.
Newcomer Lucas Deliano worked through the "D" bracket and reached the final to face Mariano Biblioni.
Matheus Paiva advanced to the "E" bracket final and the Knights' Lucas Demuth, 7-5, 6-3.
In the "F" bracket final, Javier Latorre knocked off Tim Ostheimer (Queens College (NY)), 7-6(7-3), 6-4.
NEXT UP: The Terriers' men's team returns to action Sept. 23-25 at the Fairfield Invitational, hosted by Fairfield University. The women's team opens play for the fall slate Sept. 16-17 at the Siena Invitational.
