Men’s Swimming & Diving Concludes Record Breaking Weekend at Metropolitan Championship with Fourth-Place Finish

PISCATAWAY, NJ – The St. Francis College Brooklyn men's swimming and diving team went out with a bang on its final day of competition at the Metropolitan Championship as the team set five new records on the final day of the Conference Championship meet.
 
As a team, the Terriers earned a fourth-place finish and racked up 758.5 points. Over the course of the three-day event, the Terriers set 15 new program records, 10 of which were individual records, while five were relay records.

Benedek Lendvai finished off the Conference Championship on a high note. Not only did he break the school record in the 1650-yard freestyle, he walked away taking the title as Conference Champion. Lendvai earned a Gold Medal with a record-breaking time of 15:57.16.
 
DAY ONE HIGHLIGHTS:
  • The Terriers' 200-yard freestyle relay team of Alfred ChristenssonDorde SpasicMicah Wesselhoff, and Vladislav Sinyagovskii got the squad off to a quick start as they placed fourth with a time of 1:23.05 to set a new program record.
  • To keep the record-breaking evening going Sinyagovskii, Steven Dawkins, Christensson, and Spasic competed in the 400-yard medley relay. To close out the race the relay squad collectively had a time of 3:22.51 and came in third-place overall earning them a Bronze Medal.
  • Benedek Lendvai took home some more hardware for the team coming in third-place in the 500-yard freestyle. His time of 4:37.85 earned him a Bronze Medal.
  • In the 3-meter dive finals Matthew Bernstein earned 334.99 and came in seventh-place.
  • To close out the evening and contribute to the record-breaking streak the Terriers had Binald Mahmuti swim a 1:54.43 and earn ninth-place in the 200-yard IM.
DAY TWO HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Dorde Spasic gave it his all in the 200-yard freestyle on Saturday evening as the sophomore took home Gold for the Terriers. A first for the team at the Conference meet, Spasic touched the wall with a final time of 1:41.01.
  • The spotlight was also on Vladislav Sinyagovskii as he earned Silver in the 100-yard backstroke. He also broke the school record setting the new time to beat at 48.81.
  • The Terriers' 200-yard medley relay team of Alfred Christensson, Spasic, Andrej Sokolovski, and Sinyagovskii got the squad off to a quick start as they placed fourth with a time of 1:30.85 to set a new program record.
  • To keep the record-breaking evening going Benedek LendvaiSteven Dawkins, Christensson, and Spasic competed in the 800-yard freestyle relay. To close out the race the relay squad collectively had a time of 6:56.25.
  • Alfred Christensson took fourth-place in the 100-yard butterfly as he touched the wall with a final time of 49.97.
  • Sokolovski set a new school record in the 100-yard breaststroke. His time of 57.63 got him into the top 10 of the event.
  • Binald Mahmuti took sixth-place in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:08.37.
  • In the 3-meter dive finals Matthew Bernstein earned 393.93 and came in fifth-place. 
DAY THREE HIGHLIGHTS:
  • Sophomore Vladislav Sinyagovskii had another personal best in the 200-yard backstroke. He broke his own record twice in one day as it now stands at 1:49.98, which was good for a fourth-place finish.
  • Dorde Spasic left it all in the pool when he swam his 100-yard freestyle as he set the new school record at 45.81.
  • Alfred Christensson took Bronze in the 200-yard butterfly with a solid time of 1:53.05.
  • Steven Dawkins set a new record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a final time of 2:09.45.
  • To close out the historic record-breaking weekend, the 400-freestyle relay team took third-place earning a Bronze Medal. Spasic, Sinyagovskii, Andrew Gubarev, and Micah Wesselhoff collectively swam 3:06.71 to set another program record.
UP NEXT:
The Terriers will be back in action on February 28, as they begin the first day of the ECAC Championship.
