SOMERSET, NJ - Three standouts from a 2-0 week for the St. Francis Brooklyn men's soccer team were recognized as Prime Performers by the Northeast Conference (NEC) on Monday.
Khaled Abdella,
Corrado Carbone and
Alec McLachlan were all honored as Prime Performers for week five; their first conference honors this season.
Abdella recorded two goals and one assist in wins over Lafayette and Brown. His first game-winning goal of the season came against Lafayette in the 81st minute, when he made a run from midfield down the wing, and took a feed from Sokol Ymeraj to finish the goal. The Brooklyn native scored the opener against Brown on a bouncing header that floated over the hands of the Brown keeper. 40 seconds later, Abdella fed Carbone for the second goal of the game.
Carbone's two goals are the first of his Terrier career both coming within a week. He scored the opener against Lafayette after a low, driving cross was played in and passed between two Terriers to a waiting Carbone just outside the six-yard box to flash one past the Lafayette keeper. He scored the second goal in the span of 40 seconds against Brown, taking advantage of a speedy Abdella poking one past the Brown keeper finishing the ball on the doorstep into an empty net.
At the opposite end of the pitch, Alec McLachlan made his third start of the season against Brown and recorded his first collegiate shutout, making three saves in the process. The freshman keeper holds a 1.00 goals against average through three games as a Terrier.
Their recognition makes five different Terriers that have earned a weekly conference award this season.
