NORTH ANDOVER, MA – The St. Francis College Brooklyn men's soccer team (0-1, 0-1 NEC) put forth a valiant effort, but fell to Merrimack (1-0, 1-0 NEC), 2-1, in double overtime in its 2021 spring opener. It was the Terriers first game in 477 days after their 2020 fall season was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
St. Francis struck first in the contest when senior forward
Nicolas Molina found the back of the net in the 38
th minute of play with a header. Molina was setup by senior
Dennis Coke, who began the play by sending a corner kick that found freshman midfielder
Ramchwy Saint Vil. Saint Vil sent the ball into the box and found Molina in the middle of the field. Molina redirected it with a perfect header and found the back of the net for the Terriers' first goal of the season.
Merrimack tied the game up at 1-1 in the 70
th minute when Frantz Pierrot capitalized on a penalty kick. From there, the game reminded tied, 1-1, over the final 20 minutes of regulation and the Terriers and Warriors needed overtime to decide the season opener.
Neither team gained the advantage in the first overtime. The Terriers generated one shot in the first extra frame as junior defender
Harald Sollund fired one wide of the net. Merrimack tallied one shot as well in the first overtime, but it did not find the net within the first minute of the frame. The game reminded knotted up at 1-1 after the first 10-minute overtime session.
The Warriors scored the golden goal in the 102
nd minute of play as Pierrot registered his second goal of the game. Merrimack sent a corner kick into the box and Pierrot scored the game-winner as he chipped in a loose ball in the box.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Molina found the back of the net with a header in the 38th minute. The goal was the Terriers' first of the season and the third of Molina's career. It was the first time that he scored a goal since October 26, 2019, at Fairleigh Dickinson.
- Saint Vil made his collegiate debut for the Terriers and was credited with an assist on Molina's goal. Saint Vil's touch on the play led to Molina being able to head the ball into the back of the net. The freshman logged 103 minutes of action and recorded one shot on goal to go along with the assist.
- Coke earned his second career start and recorded his first career assist in the contest. The senior's corner kick was the first touch on Molina's goal. Coke played all 103 minutes and tallied one shot in addition to his assist.
- Sophomore goalkeeper Callum James made seven saves as he faced 18 shots, nine of which were on target. The sophomore played all 103 minutes in net.
- Sollund attempted a team-high three shots for the Terriers.
- Merrimack controlled possession 72%-28% in the contest.
- St. Francis attempted seven shots, while Merrimack took 18. The Warriors took 12 corners to the Terriers' three.
