Men’s Soccer Returns Home for Meeting With NJIT

The Terriers (2-4-0) are back home at Brooklyn Bridge Park – Pier 5 to face NJIT (4-1-0) on Wednesday, September 12, at 3 p.m. St. Francis Brooklyn welcomes NJIT to Brooklyn Heights for the first time since the Terriers' home opener in 2016. The Terriers scored a 2-1 victory in double overtime against the Highlanders in their last home game against them.
 
The teams are set to meet for the sixth year in a row; St. Francis Brooklyn has won three out of the last five meetings against NJIT. The Highlanders notched a 3-0 win over the Terriers in their last meeting on September 9, 2017.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
St. Francis Brooklyn fell to Iona, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon in New Rochelle, NY. The Gaels scored in the game's third minute on a goal by Killian Colombie. The Terriers would knot the game up at 1-1 when Anthony Gimenes tallied his first career goal in the 28th minute on a free kick from 20 yards out.
 
Iona struck for two more goals en route to its second victory of the season. The Terriers outshot the Gaels, 17-14, and sent five shots on goal. A total of nine Terriers attempted shots in the contest. Senior midfielder Sami Gliguem sent four shots at the net, while freshman forward Thriston Briscoe recorded three shots, two of which were on goal.
 
HOME COOKIN':
Since 2013, the Terriers have posted a (33-6-4) mark at home. Each of the last two seasons, St. Francis Brooklyn has compiled a (16-2-2) record at Brooklyn Bridge Park – Pier 5.
 
PICKED TO THREE-PEAT:
St. Francis Brooklyn was selected as the unanimous favorite in the Northeast Conference (NEC) Preseason Poll for the second year in a row, as announced by the league on August 14. The Terriers have claimed two consecutive NEC Championships and are winners of four out of the last five conference titles (2013, 2014, 2016, 2017).
 
DOUBLE-DIGIT WINS:
Since Giovatto took over the helm in 2007, the Terriers have won 10 or more games in a season eight times. St. Francis Brooklyn has recorded double-digit win totals five years in a row and won 14 games last season, the most since the team won 15 games in 1998.
 
The 14 wins in 2017 tied for the second-most victories in a single-season in program history. The Terriers also won 14 games in 1978, 1991, 1995, and 1997.
 
MEET THE STAFF:
Giovatto enters his 12th year at the helm of St. Francis Brooklyn. Former St. Francis Brooklyn men's soccer standout Andy Cormack enters his fourth season as an assistant. Alessio Cannata and Hector Guerrero joined Giovatto's staff before the 2018 season. Guerrero will serve as the teams' goalkeepers' coach.
