Box Score BALTIMORE, Mary. - The St. Francis Brooklyn men's soccer team opened a Labor Day weekend Maryland road trip Friday night with its first match-up with UMBC since 2013.
St. Francis came in off its first win of the season over La Salle but was unable to maintain the momentum against the Retrievers, falling 1-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
UMBC set the tone for the match in the first five minutes by scoring two goals in that stretch; including one in the opening 11 seconds.
The Terriers' backline settled in from there, allowing just two more shots on goal for the remaining 40 minutes of the first half. SFBK goalkeeper David Santiago made two saves in that stretch.
Santiago would match that count in the first 15 minus of the second half as the UMBC attack was keen on another goal. They doubled their advantage in the 69th minute with a pair of back-to-back goals within 20 seconds to go up 4-0.
The pair of goals brought on the St. Francis debut of transfer goalkeeper Flannan Riley, who played the final 19 minutes and made two saves in the process.
His debut was not the only first for the Terriers on Friday evening. St. Francis earned a corner in the 89th minute, with freshman Caleb Danquah delivering a perfectly placed ball to Martin Palanic who headed it home to put the Terriers on the board, 4-1. Danquah's assist and Palinic's goal are their first as Terriers.
That scoreline held through the final minute of play.
NEXT UP: The Terriers head to Annapolis to face Navy on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 5:00 p.m. The match will stream live on ESPN+.
