FAIRFIELD, CT – The St. Francis Brooklyn men's soccer team (6-10-0, 3-4-0 NEC) fell to Sacred Heart (4-12-1, 3-5-0 NEC) in double overtime.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In a game that saw 37 shot attempts and 21 shots on goal, the Pioneers struck first with a goal in the 19th minute. Segundo Navarro tallied Sacred Heart's first goal and was assisted by Oscar Curras and Zander Hyltoft.
- The Terriers would respond in the 32nd minute when junior forward Matteo Caribotti found the back of the net on a feed from senior midfielder Anthony Gimenes. The goal was Caribotti's fourth of the season, which is good for the second-most on the team. The assist for Gimenes marked his first of the season.
- After 90 minutes of play, the Terriers and Pioneers were knotted up at 1-1 and were headed to overtime. After a scoreless first overtime, the Pioneers recorded the game-winning goal in the 102nd minute of play. Altin Celaj notched the golden goal on an assist from Oscar Curras.
- The Terriers registered a season-high 23 shots, with 14 going on goal. Sophomore defender Yoann Assoumin fired a team-high five shots (four on goal). Caribotti and junior midfielder Julien Remiti were able to tally four shots (two on goal) apiece.
- Junior goalkeeper Nicolas Casado made five saves in net.
- The Terriers attempted five corners, while the Pioneers took two. A total of 25 fouls were called in the game, 13 on St. Francis Brooklyn and 12 on Sacred Heart.
