WASHINGTON, DC – The St. Francis College Brooklyn men's soccer team (3-1-1) kept a clean sheet en route to its third victory of the season as it defeated Howard (1-4), 1-0, on Tuesday. With the win, the Terriers have now won nine-straight contests against the Bison dating back to the 2011 season.
Over the last nine meetings, St. Francis has outscored Howard, 26-3, and has recorded six shutouts. The Terriers improved to 5-0 on the road against Howard over that span.
The clean sheet marked the Terriers' fourth of the season as they have only surrendered one goal through the first five matches of the year. St. Francis is tied for the fewest goals surrendered in the nation up until this point of the season. The Terriers are tied with Stanford, SMU, UMass, Missouri State, Navy, Virginia, Penn, and Grand Canyon for the fewest goals allowed in the nation with one apiece.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 1 | Howard – 0
- The Terriers and Bison were scoreless through the first 79 minutes of the contest until sophomore forward Khaled Abdella struck for St. Francis. Abdella gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead in the 80th minute on his first career goal, which proved to be the game-winner. Abdella was assisted by senior midfielder Kieran Young, the first assist of the season for the Terriers' co-captain. Abdella logged 22 minutes of action as he entered the contest as a substitute in the 69th minute.
- Senior goalkeeper Nicolas Casado kept a clean sheet, his third of his career and first of the 2019 campaign. Casado earned his first start in net this afternoon and made three saves. The shutout was his first since August 24, 2018, when he kept Lafayette off the scoreboard to open the 2018 season.
- Howard outshot St. Francis, 8-7, but the Terriers overwhelmed the Bison with all seven of their shots going on target. The seven shots on target tied a season-high for the Terriers as they also tallied seven shots on goal on September 3, against La Salle.
