Terriers Wrap Up Homestand on Saturday against Sacred Heart

The Terriers (10-7, 2-2 NEC) are back at the Pope to wrap up their three-game homestand against Sacred Heart (7-10, 3-1 NEC) on Saturday, January 19, at 4 p.m. St. Francis Brooklyn is coming off a 72-68 win last Saturday against NEC Preseason Favorite Saint Francis (PA). The win over the Red Flash marked the first for the Terriers over their Saint Francis counterpart since February 16, 2016. Glenn Sanabria paced the Terriers to the win with a season-high 23 points, while the Terriers' defense buckled down once again as they limited the Red Flash to just 26.7 percent shooting from behind the arc. The Pioneers come into the contest as one of three teams in the NEC sitting at 3-1. Sacred Heart knocked off Bryant, 98-70, in their last game on Saturday. Their lone conference loss this season came at Wagner on Thursday, January 10.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:
St. Francis Brooklyn and Sacred Heart are set to meet for the 35th time in history with the Terriers holding a 21-13 all-time advantage in the series. The Terriers and Pioneers split the series last season with both teams winning on each other's home floor. St. Francis Brooklyn edged Sacred Heart, 73-68, in the first meeting on December 29, in Fairfield, CT. Five Terriers scored in double-digits, and they were led by Glenn Sanabria who scored 15 points and dished out five assists. Sanabria scored all 15 of his points on five converted three-pointers. Jalen Jordan totaled 11 points, while Chauncey Hawkins added 10 off the bench. Sacred Heart came out with the win in the second of two meetings last season by the score of 92-52. The Terriers are 10-5 under coach Braica against Sacred Heart and 6-2 at home.
 
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS:
Sacred Heart comes into the game as the highest scoring team in the NEC averaging 82.0 points per contest. The Pioneers have been paced by four players who are currently scoring in double-digits. Koreem Ozier leads the team in scoring with 18.0 points in eight games this season. Sean Hoehn is just behind Ozier in scoring as he is averaging 17.6 points per game. E.J. Anosike and Jarel'l Spellman rank third and fourth on the team in scoring respectively. Anoskie is averaging 13.6 points, while Spellman has poured in 10.2 points per game. Hoehn currently ranks fourth in the NEC in scoring, while Anosike is in 14th, and Spellman is tied for 30th. Cameron Parker is tied for the fourth-most assists in the nation as he is averaging 7.4 assists per contest. After losing fourth consecutive games to close out the non-conference slate, Sacred Heart bounced back to win three out of its last four contests.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Terriers earned a crucial home win over the NEC Preseason favorites Saint Francis (PA) (6-9, 2-2 NEC), 72-68, on Saturday afternoon. Graduate guard Glenn Sanabria poured in a season-high 23 points and converted what proved to be the game-winning layup as he broke a 68-68 tie with three seconds to play. Sanabria blew past the Red Flash's Andre Wolford as he went strong to the rack for the game-winning lay-in.
 
HOME COOKIN':
St. Francis Brooklyn is 6-1 at home this season, the six home wins are tied with Robert Morris for the most in the NEC this season. Last season the Terriers posted an impressive 10-3 record on their home court. They went 3-1 at home during non-conference play and 7-2 during their league slate. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, the Terriers are 16-4 at the Pope. The 10 home wins last season were the most for the Terriers since they recorded 13 in 2014-15.
 
DEFENDING THE ARC:
The Terriers have been one of the toughest teams in the nation to shoot the three-ball against. Opponents are shooting just 28.1 percent from deep, which is tied for the 12th-lowest mark in the NCAA. The Terriers have held teams to under 30.0 percent shooting from behind the arc in five-straight games. Over the five-game stretch, teams are shooting 12-of-65 (18.5 percent) from deep against the Terriers.
 
NEC RANKINGS:
The Terriers have allowed the second-fewest points per game 68.8 ppg), and have the second-best scoring margin (+1.6) in the NEC this season. St. Francis Brooklyn is tied for the second-toughest team in the conference to shoot against, opposing teams are just shooting 42.8 percent from the field against the Terriers. Opposing teams are shooting only 28.1 percent from behind the arc which is the lowest mark in the conference. St. Francis Brooklyn is the fourth-best rebounding team (38.4 rpg) and have the fifth-best rebounding margin (+0.5) in the league. The Terriers are the third-best defensive rebounding team in the conference averaging 26.7 per game. As a team, the Terriers are blocking 4.5 shots per game and have swatted away 76 shots. They are tied for the league-lead in blocks and second in the league in blocks per game. They've made the third-most threes per game (8.2) and had the most makes from deep in the league (139).
 
Jalen Jordan ranks fifth in the NEC in scoring (15.6 ppg) and is the only sophomore ranked in the top 10 of the conference. Sanabria (12.5 ppg) ranks 19th, and Hawkins (10.6 ppg) ranks 27th in the league in scoring. Jordan is shooting 44.3 percent from three, which is the best mark in the league. He has knocked down 51 threes and is averaging 3.0 makes from threes per game. Jordan is second in the league in made threes per game and second in total three-pointers. Christian Rohlehr is fourth in the NEC in blocks per game (1.33) and fourth in total blocks (20).
 
NON-CONFERENCE NOTABLES:
The eight non-conference wins were the most for the Terriers since they posted nine during the 2013-14 season. The Terriers went 5-0 at home during non-conference play. St. Francis Brooklyn recorded the most non-conference wins in the NEC, the most home wins (five), were tied for the most road wins (three), had the most wins by 10 or more points (five), and were the only team over .500. The Terriers were on a three-game winning streak from November 24 to December 3. It was the longest winning streak for the Terriers since they won four-straight (Feb. 18-27) to close out the 2015-16 season.

Graduate guard Glenn Sanabria scored his 1,000th career point in a win over Niagara on November 24. Sanabria became the 32nd player to join the Terriers' 1,000-point club and the first since Brent Jones did so on February 5, 2015, against Central Connecticut. He currently is in 16th place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list with 1,155 points after he surpassed current assistant coach Jamaal Womack who had 1,153 career points. Sanabria is chasing Robert Jackson in 15th-place with 1,243 career points.
 
TERRIERS COACHING RECORDS:
St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball head coach Glenn Braica passed Rody Cooney for third place on the program's all-time wins list for victories by a head coach. Braica has compiled 125 wins over his nine seasons on Remsen Street. Braica is just one of four Terriers' head coaches to win over 100 games in their career.
 
NEC COACHING VETERANS:
Head coach Glenn Braica and Robert Morris' head coach Andrew Toole are the two longest-tenured head coaches in the NEC as they both took over their respective programs before the 2010-11 season. Toole is the active leader for wins at an NEC institution with 158, Braica is right behind Toole in second with 125. LIU Brooklyn's Derek Kellogg has the most career wins of any coach in the NEC with 181 (nine years at UMass, two years at LIU Brooklyn).
 
TERRIERS INK QUARTLEBAUM:
On November 16, St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball announced the signing of Trey Quartlebaum. Quartlebaum is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard from Lawrence, KS and attends Lawrence High School. He is originally from Dobbs Ferry, NY and plays AAU ball for KC Run GMC. The guard averaged 13.0 points per game during his junior year at Lawrence and was a Kansas 6A All-State Honorable Mention.
