Terriers Open Up Four-Game Homestand on Thursday Against Wagner

The Terriers (13-10, 5-5 NEC) return to the Pope Physical Education Center on Thursday, February 7, when they face Wagner (10-11, 5-5 NEC) at 7 p.m. The meeting between the Terriers and Seahawks marks the second of the season between the NEC foes. St. Francis Brooklyn concluded a five-game road trip with a 71-62 defeat on Saturday at Sacred Heart. The Terriers went 2-3 over the course of their five-game conference road swing and picked up wins over LIU Brooklyn and Mount St. Mary's. Wagner is coming off a 71-59 win over LIU Brooklyn on Saturday. The Seahawks are 2-3 over their last five conference games and are currently tied with the Terriers and Bryant for fifth place in the league.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:
St. Francis Brooklyn and Wagner will go head-to-head for the 97th time in history on Thursday, with the Seahawks leading the series 51-45. The Terriers picked up their first NEC win of the season on January 5, when they knocked off Wagner on Staten Island, 66-59. Jalen Jordan tallied a then career-high with 23 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor and converted 3-of-5 from three-point range. Glenn Sanabria scored 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting from the floor, pulled down four rebounds, and swiped three steals. The Terriers are 9-7 against the Seahawks under head coach Glenn Braica and 4-3 at the Pope. Over the last five meetings against Wagner, the Terriers are 2-3 and 1-1 on their home floor. Last season, the teams split the season series as each side picked up wins at home.
 
SCOUTING THE SEAHAWKS:
Wagner has been led by Romone Saunders who is second in the NEC in scoring with 17.9 points per game. He is fifth in the league in rebounds per game (7.1), seventh in assists per game (3.81), and sixth in steals per game (1.5). Elijah Davis is second on the team in scoring with 11.2 points per contest in 21 games (nine starts). AJ Sumbry has logged 31.3 minutes per game for Wagner and has recorded 8.3 points per outing. As a team, the Seahawks have averaged 68.2 points per game on 40.0 percent shooting from the field. During NEC play, the Seahawks have been held to 64.4 points per contest on 37.7 percent shooting. 
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Terriers were defeated by Sacred Heart (10-13, 6-4 NEC), 71-62, on Saturday, February 2. It marked just the second time this season that St. Francis Brooklyn was edged in back-to-back contests. Sophomore guard Chauncey Hawkins led the Terriers in scoring with 18 points off the bench. Junior forward Deniz Celen tallied his fifth consecutive double-digit scoring output with 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting from the field, and he pulled down eight rebounds. The Terriers and Pioneers split the season series with each team winning on their respective home floor.
 
HOME COOKIN':
St. Francis Brooklyn is 7-1 at home this season, the seven home wins are tied for second in the league with Sacred Heart. Last season the Terriers posted an impressive 10-3 record on their home court. They went 3-1 at home during non-conference play and 7-2 during their league slate. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, the Terriers are 17-4 at the Pope. The 10 home wins last season were the most for the Terriers since they recorded 13 in 2014-15.
 
DEFENDING THE ARC:
The Terriers have been one of the toughest teams in the nation to shoot the three-ball against. Opponents are shooting just 29.4 percent from deep, which is the 17th-lowest mark in the NCAA. Through 10 conference games, the Terriers have held opponents to only 28.1 percent shooting from behind the arc which is the lowest mark in the league.
 
NEC RANKINGS:
The Terriers have allowed the third-fewest points per game (69.6 ppg), and have the third-best scoring margin (+1.4) in the NEC this season. St. Francis Brooklyn is the toughest team in the conference to shoot against, opposing teams are just shooting 42.3 percent from the field against the Terriers. Opposing teams are shooting only 29.4 percent from behind the arc which is the lowest mark in the conference. St. Francis Brooklyn is the third-best rebounding team (38.0 rpg) and have the fifth-best rebounding margin (+0.4) in the league. The Terriers are the third-best defensive rebounding team in the conference averaging 26.6 per game. As a team, the Terriers are blocking 4.1 shots per game and have swatted away 95 shots. They are second in the league in blocks and second in blocks per game. They are tied for the second-most threes per game (8.1) and have the most makes from deep in the league (187).
 
Jalen Jordan ranks seventh in the NEC in scoring (16.2 ppg) and is the only sophomore ranked in the top 10 of the conference. Sanabria (12.2 ppg) is 20th, and Hawkins (11.6 ppg) ranks 22nd in the league in scoring. Jordan is shooting 42.1 percent from three, which is the third-best mark in the league. He has knocked down 69 threes and is averaging 3.0 makes from three per game. Jordan is second in the league in made threes per game and second in total three-pointers. Christian Rohlehr is seventh in the NEC in blocks per game (1.1) and tied for seventh in total blocks (22). Deniz Celen and Rosel Hurley cracked the top 10 in field goal percentage. Celen is seventh in the league shooting 50.6 percent, while Hurley is 10th at 49.0 percent.
 
NON-CONFERENCE NOTABLES:
The eight non-conference wins were the most for the Terriers since they posted nine during the 2013-14 season. The Terriers went 5-0 at home during non-conference play. St. Francis Brooklyn recorded the most non-conference wins in the NEC, the most home wins (five), were tied for the most road wins (three), had the most wins by 10 or more points (five), and were the only team over .500. The Terriers were on a three-game winning streak from November 24 to December 3. It was the longest winning streak for the Terriers since they won four-straight (Feb. 18-27) to close out the 2015-16 season.
 
GS1K:
Graduate guard Glenn Sanabria scored his 1,000th career point in a win over Niagara on November 24. Sanabria became the 32nd player to join the Terriers' 1,000-point club and the first since Brent Jones did so on February 5, 2015, against Central Connecticut. He currently is in 16th place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list with 1,222 points after he surpassed current assistant coach Jamaal Womack who had 1,153 career points. Sanabria is chasing Robert Jackson in 15th-place with 1,243 career points.
 
TERRIERS COACHING RECORDS:
St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball head coach Glenn Braica passed Rody Cooney for third place on the program's all-time wins list for victories by a head coach. Braica has compiled 128 wins over his nine seasons on Remsen Street. Braica is just one of four Terriers' head coaches to win over 100 games in their career.
 
NEC COACHING VETERANS:
Head coach Glenn Braica and Robert Morris' head coach Andrew Toole are the two longest-tenured head coaches in the NEC as they both took over their respective programs before the 2010-11 season. Toole is the active leader for wins at an NEC institution with 162, Braica is right behind Toole in second with 128. LIU Brooklyn's Derek Kellogg has the most career wins of any coach in the NEC with 183 (nine years at UMass, two years at LIU Brooklyn).
 
TERRIERS INK QUARTLEBAUM:
On November 16, St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball announced the signing of Trey Quartlebaum. Quartlebaum is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard from Lawrence, KS and attends Lawrence High School. He is originally from Dobbs Ferry, NY and plays AAU ball for KC Run GMC. The guard averaged 13.0 points per game during his junior year at Lawrence and was a Kansas 6A All-State Honorable Mention.
