Men’s Basketball Signs Trey Quartlebaum

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball head coach Glenn Braica announced the signing of Trey Quartlebaum. Quartlebaum signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) and will join the Terriers men's basketball program for the 2019-20 season.

"We are excited to announce the addition of Trey to the men's basketball program. We think Trey is going to be a great player for us and we look forward to him contributing to the program in the years to come. He has a high basketball IQ and is a skilled guard that we believe will be a good player in the Northeast Conference. He comes from a tremendous family, who I've had the pleasure of knowing for many years," said coach Braica on the signing of Quartlebaum.

Quartlebaum is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard from Lawrence, KS and attends Lawrence High School. He is originally from Dobbs Ferry, NY and plays AAU ball for KC Run GMC.

The guard averaged 13.0 points per game during his junior year at Lawrence and was a Kansas 6A All-State Honorable Mention. In addition, he earned a Kansas Sunflower League Honorable Mention and Kansas All-Area Honorable Mention. Quartlebaum was tabbed to the Blue Valley Shootout All-Tournament Team and was a member of the Kansas Sub-State Championship team.

With graduate guard Glenn Sanabria departing after the season, Quartlebaum is another sharp-shooting guard, who can knockdown the three-ball for the Terriers.

He is the son of Christy and Fred Quartlebaum Jr. His mother Christy ran track at Maryland. Fred Quartlebaum Jr. is currently a member of the men's basketball coaching staff at Kansas, where he serves as the Director of Student-Athlete Development.

Coach Braica and Quartlebaum Jr. have a close personal relationship as they both spent six seasons on Norm Roberts' coaching staff at St. John's. Trey will become the first student-athlete to play for coach Braica that he has seen grow from a youth aged basketball player to a Division I student-athlete. Growing up, Trey participated in basketball camps that coach Braica used to help run at St. John's.

Quartlebaum Jr. was a standout basketball player at Fordham where he was a four-year letter winner from 1985-89. He led the Rams to an NIT appearance during his junior year in 1988 and was later named a co-captain of the men's basketball team in 1989.

Trey's uncle, Ray Gant played football at the University of Georgia. His younger brother Mayson is also a member of the basketball team at Lawrence High School.
