Men’s Hoops Grinds Out Third-Straight Road Win on Wednesday at Presbyterian

CLINTON, SC – The St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball team (4-3) continued to show its grit with a 90-86 victory over Presbyterian (3-4) on the road in Clinton, SC on Wednesday night. The road win marks the third in a row for the Terriers who've been away from home for six-straight games.
 
The Terriers received career-high scoring outputs from three players en route to their fourth victory of the season. Sophomore guard Chauncey Hawkins continued to display his prowess off the bench as he poured in a career-high 27 points to lead the way for the Terriers.
 
St. Francis Brooklyn shot at a high clip in the first half as it took a 42-41 lead into halftime. The Terriers shot 53.1 percent (17-of-32) from the field in the opening frame and converted four threes. The guys from Remsen Street came out in the second half with the same energy they exuberated in the first. The Terriers scored 48 points in the second half on 48.5 percent shooting (16-of-33). The 48 points in the second are the most points in a single half that the Terriers have scored all season.
 
Down the stretch of the game, the Terriers went up by as many as nine points and led 73-64. Presbyterian went on a 6-0 run to cut the lead to three with 5:00 minutes to play. After weathering the Blue Hose's storm, the Terriers' received buckets from Hawkins and senior guard Keon Williams. After made threes by both Williams and Hawkins, the Terriers were able to seal the win with clutch free-throws.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 90 | Presbyterian – 86
  • Hawkins' scored his 27 points on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 4-of-5 shooting from three. He also went 4-of-5 from the free-throw line and dished out five assists without committing a turnover in 31 minutes of play off the bench. The four made threes, and seven converted free-throws tied his career-highs in both categories. The 27-point performance marked the most points scored in a single-game by a Terrier since Yunus Hopkinson scored 34 on February 9, 2017, at Sacred Heart. The 27 points are eighth-most scored by a player in the NEC this season. Hawkins scored 16 of his points in the second half, which marked the fourth time this season that he has scored 14 or more points in the second half of play.
  • Keon Williams continued his strong play off the bench for the Terriers. The senior scored a career-high 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting. He knocked down one three-pointer, and it was a clutch one with 32 seconds to play to put the Terriers up by five points. He pulled down a pair of rebounds in 30 minutes of action.
  • Sophomore guard Jalen Jordan scored in double figures for the seventh game in a row. The guard tallied 13 points and six rebounds in 36 minutes.
  • Junior forward Deniz Celen had his highest scoring game in the red and blue. The forward scored a career-high 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting and pulled down two rebounds. Celen scored the first nine points of the game for the Terriers, three of which came off of his first made three-ball of the season to beat an expiring shot clock.
  • Junior guard Rosel Hurley contributed 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, seven rebounds, and two assists.
  • Junior forward Christian Rohlehr registered a career-high eight points on perfect 3-of-3 shooting from the field and corralled seven rebounds. The junior also blocked a pair of shots in 19 minutes of play. It was the fourth time this season that he has blocked at least two shots in a game and the third game in a row that he has done so.
  • As a team, the Terriers shot 50.8 percent from the field, 44.4 percent from behind the arc, and 80.0 percent from the free-throw line. After only getting to the line five times in the first half, the Terriers attempted 15 free-throws in the second half and knocked down 12 of them.
  • The Terriers received a significant contribution from their bench tonight as they totaled 52 points.
  • St. Francis Brooklyn improves to 4-0 when leading at halftime and 3-2 on the road.
