Men’s Hoops Concludes Four-Game Homestand on Saturday Against Central Connecticut

The Terriers (15-11, 7-6 NEC) are back in action on Saturday, February 16, as they take on Central Connecticut State (11-15, 5-8 NEC) at 4 p.m. on Athletics Alumni Day. St. Francis Brooklyn is coming off a home win over LIU Brooklyn on Thursday night as it defeated the Blackbirds, 83-76, in the 44th annual Battle of Brooklyn. The Terriers earned a regular season series sweep of the Blackbirds as they picked up the head-to-head tiebreaker with the victory. The Blue Devils enter the contest 3-2 over their last five games and most recently fell to Wagner, 63-57, on Thursday.
 
ALL-TIME SERIES:
St. Francis Brooklyn leads the all-time series with Central Connecticut (28-25). The Terriers are 2-3 against the Blue Devils over their last five meetings and were edged 78-72 on January 31, the last time the teams went head-to-head. Five Terriers scored in double figures with Jordan leading the way with 23 points. The guard knocked down a career-high seven threes, which were the most made in a single-game by a Terrier since teammate Glenn Sanabria also knocked down seven against Central Connecticut on December 31, 2016. CCSU's Tyler Kohl finished with a game-high 29 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. The Terriers are 9-7 against Central Connecticut under head coach Glenn Braica and 6-1 at the Pope against the Blue Devils.
 
SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS:
Four players scoring in double figures have paced the Blue Devils. Tyler Kohl leads the way as he's averaging 18.6 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in 25 games (24 starts) for Central Connecticut. Ian Krishnan is second on the team in scoring as he's tallied 12.7 points per game. Joe Hugley is right behind Krishnan as he's added 12.0 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Rounding out the foursome is Jamir Coleman whose registered 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. The Blue Devils are averaging 72.4 points, which are the fifth-most in the NEC. They are shooting 42.0 percent from the field and 33.1 percent from three-point range.
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Terriers earned a regular season series sweep of LIU Brooklyn with an 83-76 defeat of the Blackbirds in the 44th annual Battle of Brooklyn on Thursday night. The win marked the Terriers 19th all-time in the Battle of Brooklyn series and their first since the 2015-16 season. Graduate guard Glenn Sanabria was named the game's MVP after he scored 17 points to lead the Terriers. Jalen Jordan and Chauncey Hawkins each chipped in 16 points apiece. St. Francis Brooklyn earned its league-leading 15th win of the season, which is tied for its most since the 2015-16 season.
 
HOME COOKIN':
St. Francis Brooklyn is 9-2 at home this season, the nine home wins are tied for first in the league with Robert Morris. Last season the Terriers posted an impressive 10-3 record on their home court. They went 3-1 at home during non-conference play and 7-2 during their league slate. Since the start of the 2017-18 season, the Terriers are 19-5 at the Pope. The 10 home wins last season were the most for the Terriers since they recorded 13 in 2014-15.
 
DEFENDING THE ARC:
The Terriers have been one of the toughest teams in the nation to shoot the three-ball against. Opponents are shooting just 30.0 percent from deep, which is the 22nd-lowest mark in the NCAA. Through 13 conference games, the Terriers have held opponents to only 29.4 percent shooting from behind the arc which is the lowest mark in the league.
 
NEC RANKINGS:
The Terriers have allowed the third-fewest points per game (69.4 ppg), and are tied for the second-best scoring margin (+1.4) in the NEC this season. St. Francis Brooklyn is the second-toughest team in the conference to shoot against, opposing teams are just shooting 42.5 percent from the field against the Terriers. Opposing teams are shooting only 30.0 percent from behind the arc which is the lowest mark in the conference. St. Francis Brooklyn is the fourth-best rebounding team (37.4 rpg). The Terriers are the third-best defensive rebounding team in the conference averaging 26.2 per game. As a team, the Terriers are blocking 4.1 shots per game and have swatted away 107 shots. They are second in the league in both blocks and blocks per game. They are third in the league in threes per game (8.2) and have the most makes from deep (214).
 
Jalen Jordan is seventh in the NEC in scoring (15.6 ppg), Sanabria (12.3 ppg) is tied for 18th, and Hawkins (11.5 ppg) ranks 25th. Jordan is shooting 42.5 percent from three, which is the third-best mark in the league. He has knocked down 77 threes and is averaging 3.0 makes from behind the arc per game. The guard ranks second in the league in both made threes per game and total three-pointers. Christian Rohlehr is tied for 10th in the NEC in blocks per game (1.0). Deniz Celen and Rosel Hurley cracked the top 15 in field goal percentage. Celen ranks ninth in the league at 49.7 percent, while Hurley is 11th with a 49.1 field goal percentage.
 
NON-CONFERENCE NOTABLES:
The eight non-conference wins were the most for the Terriers since they posted nine during the 2013-14 season. The Terriers went 5-0 at home during non-conference play. St. Francis Brooklyn recorded the most non-conference wins in the NEC, the most home wins (five), were tied for the most road wins (three), had the most wins by 10 or more points (five), and were the only team over .500. The Terriers were on a three-game winning streak from November 24 to December 3. It was the longest winning streak for the Terriers since they won four-straight (Feb. 18-27) to close out the 2015-16 season.
 
GS1K:
Graduate guard Glenn Sanabria scored his 1,000th career point in a win over Niagara on November 24. Sanabria became the 32nd player to join the Terriers' 1,000-point club and the first since Brent Jones did so on February 5, 2015, against Central Connecticut. He currently is in 14th place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list with 1,263 points after he surpassed Lou Myers who had 1,259 career points. Sanabria is now chasing Anthony D'Elia in 13th place on the scoring list with 1,304 points.
 
TERRIERS COACHING RECORDS:
St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball head coach Glenn Braica passed Rody Cooney for third place on the program's all-time wins list for victories by a head coach. Braica has compiled 130 wins over his nine seasons on Remsen Street. Braica is just one of four Terriers' head coaches to win over 100 games in their career.
 
NEC COACHING VETERANS:
Head coach Glenn Braica and Robert Morris' head coach Andrew Toole are the two longest-tenured head coaches in the NEC as they both took over their respective programs before the 2010-11 season. Toole is the active leader for wins at an NEC institution with 163, Braica is right behind Toole in second with 130. LIU Brooklyn's Derek Kellogg has the most career wins of any coach in the NEC with 184 (nine years at UMass, two years at LIU Brooklyn).
 
TERRIERS INK QUARTLEBAUM:
On November 16, St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball announced the signing of Trey Quartlebaum. Quartlebaum is a 6-foot-1, 170-pound guard from Lawrence, KS and attends Lawrence High School. He is originally from Dobbs Ferry, NY and plays AAU ball for KC Run GMC. The guard averaged 13.0 points per game during his junior year at Lawrence and was a Kansas 6A All-State Honorable Mention.

The Terriers travel to Loretto, PA to begin their annual Western Pennsylvania trip. They go head-to-head with Saint Francis (PA) on Thursday, February 21, at 7 p.m.
