SOMERSET, NJ – St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball sophomore guard
Jalen Jordan was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Player of the Week as announced by the league today.
Jordan takes home the award for the second time this season; he was named NEC Player of the Week back on December 17. He is the first Terrier to capture multiple NEC Player of the Week awards in a season since Jalen Cannon earned the award five times during the 2014-15 campaign.
The sophomore led the Terriers to a perfect 2-0 week as he poured in 24.0 points per game on 12-of-26 shooting from the floor (46.2%) and went 7-of-13 (53.8%) from three. He also registered 5.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game.
Jordan began the week by scoring a career-high 28 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field and went a perfect 13-of-13 from the free-throw line in a win over Sacred Heart on Saturday. The 13 made free-throws, and 13 attempts from the line were both career-highs. Jordan also did his fair share of facilitating as he dished out a career-best six assists in 38 minutes of action. The 28 points were the most scored in a game by a Terrier this season. The 13 made free-throws were tied for the most in a single-game by a player in the league this season.
On Monday, he scored a team-high 20 points on 6-of-13 shooting from the field and went 4-of-7 from three in a 79-70 road win over LIU Brooklyn. The guard pulled down seven rebounds and dished out three assists in 36 minutes of play. It was the second game in a row that he tallied 20 or more points and the seventh time this season that he did so.
The Terriers are 6-1 when Jordan scores 20 or more points and he has scored in double figures in 16 out of 18 games this season. His seven rebounds were the most that he's pulled down in a game since he recorded a career-high tying eight at Boston College on November 11. Jordan is the NEC leader in three-point accuracy (45.3%), ranks second in made threes per game (3.05) and fifth in scoring (16.5). He is averaging 18.8 points per game through six conference games this season.
St. Francis Brooklyn is currently on a three-game winning and takes the court next on Thursday when it travels to Hackensack, NJ to face Fairleigh Dickinson at 7 p.m.
