Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Falls to St. John’s on Wednesday Night

QUEENS, NY – The St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball team (7-5) fell to St. John's (11-0), 86-52, on Wednesday night at Carnesecca Arena. The Red Storm improve to 11-0 and are just one of nine teams in the nation that currently have an undefeated record.

Sophomore guard Jalen Jordan opened the scoring for the Terriers in the game's first seconds with a corner three-ball. Following that three, the Terriers and Red Storm would trade baskets before St. John's would go on an 18-4 run that lasted to the 8:50 mark of the first half.

The Terriers began to chip away at an early St. John's lead when sophomore guard Chauncey Hawkins intercepted a pass, took it coast-to-coast and finished with a layup to make the game, 22-12, in favor of the Red Storm. After Hawkins made a three, Jordan followed with a stop-and-pop jumper on a fast break to cut St. John's lead to 29-21 with 4:52 to play in the opening frame.

After a made layup by Shamoire Ponds, sophomore forward Yaradyah Evans responded with an emphatic dunk with under two minutes to play in the half. The Red Storm responded by closing the half on a 6-2 run and led 37-25 at the break.

St. John's built on its first half lead and went on to outscore the Terriers 49-27 in the second half. Hawkins paced the Terriers in the second half with a team-high 11 points in the frame en route to a game-high of 16 on the evening.
