RALEIGH, NC – The St. Francis College Brooklyn men's basketball team (1-3) was defeated by NC State (3-1) on Saturday afternoon inside James T. Valvano Arena at William Neal Reynolds Coliseum. It was just the second time in history that the Terriers and Wolfpack have gone head-to-head.
The Terriers played a strong first half as they pushed the Wolfpack from the opening tip. NC State took a 44-34 lead into the halftime break as St. Francis fought back each time the Wolfpack looked to break away. Nine players recorded points for the Terriers in the opening frame and they were led by
Christian Rohlehr and
Stevan Krtinic, who each had six points apiece.
NC State took control of the game in the second half behind a double-double performance from CJ Bryce (22 points, 11 rebounds). Junior guard
Chauncey Hawkins and freshman guard
Rob Higgins continued to assert their presence in the backcourt. Hawking poured in 12 points in the second half to lead the team, while Higgins added eight.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
St. Francis Brooklyn – 64 | NC State – 95
- Hawkins led the Terriers in scoring with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. It was the fourth game in a row that the guard has scored in double-digits. Additionally, the 5-foot-8 guard pulled down a career-high eight rebounds in 28 minutes of play.
- Higgins finished the game with 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting from the floor and he knocked down 2-of-6 from three-point range. The guard scored in double-figures for the second-straight game as he was just one-point shy from tying his early season-high. Higgins dished out a team-high three assists in 26 minutes of action.
- Rohlehr and Krtinic each did all of their scoring in the first half as both players scored six points apiece in the frame. Rohlehr recorded six points and four rebounds (all offensive), while Krtinic added six points and four rebounds of his own.
- Junior forward Yaradyah Evans totaled five points on 2-of-7 shooting and pulled down a season-high eight rebounds (three offensive) in his fourth-straight start.
- Freshman guard Trey Quartlebaum scored his first two collegiate points in the game. The guard knocked down a pair of free-throws with four seconds to play in the first half. Quartlebaum scored two points and grabbed a pair of rebounds in 15 minutes of play.

After concluding a two-game road trip the Terriers make a brief stop back in Brooklyn Heights as they are set to host Medgar Evers on Thursday, November 21, at 7 p.m. The meeting with the Cougars marks the second year in a row that the teams will go head-to-head. Last season, St. Francis defeated Medgar Evers, 92-42, on opening night behind 15 points from Krtinic and 14 points and eight rebounds from
Rosel Hurley.
