MADISON, Wisc. - The St. Francis Brooklyn men's basketball opened its 2021-2022 season on the road on Tuesday night, falling 81-58 to Wisconsin at the Kohl Center.
The Terriers made their first road trip outside of the Northeast since the 2018-2019 season.
In front of 15,735 fans, St. Francis battled a Big 10 opponent for the third time under head coach Glenn Braica.
Junior guard Tedrick Wilcox Jr. scored the first basket of the season, nailing a step-back three-point jumper to give the Terriers their first lead of the game.
From there, St. Francis battled with the interior size and length of the Wisconsin frontcourt. Fellow transfer, forward Patrick Emilien (Western Michigan), found a home inside the arc. Emilien fueled the Terrier offense in the first half with his play in the paint and midrange shot.
Emilien led the team in points (18), grabbed five rebounds, and made one steal in over 34 minutes of playing time. He finished the day shooting 8 of 11 from the field, and 1 of 3 from beyond the arc.
Two other Terriers joined him in double digit scoring in the second half. Marist transfer Michael Cubbage, in his first game in Terrier Red and Blue, recorded 10 points and led the team with seven rebounds. Cubbage was 4 of 7 shooting from the field in the second half.
Trey Quartlebaum opened his third season with St. Francis with his fifth career double digit scoring effort. The Lawrence, K.S. native scored 10 points (4-6, 2-3 3PT), and recorded 5 rebounds and one steal.
St. Francis Brooklyn shot 50 percent from the field in the second half; 39.7 percent from the field for the game.
Junior guard Rob Higgins led the Terriers with three steals in the opener, adding 4 points and 2 assists.
In all, eight Terriers made the score sheet Tuesday night: Jack Hemphill (7), Di'Andre Howell-South (4), Wilcox (3), and Vuk Stevanic (2).
NEXT UP: St. Francis returns to the Pope Center on Saturday, Nov. 13 for the home opener against St. Thomas (MN). Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and tickets are available through the Terrier Ticket Office.
