Three St. Francis College Brooklyn Teams Earn NCAA Public Recognition Awards

BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – The St. Francis College Brooklyn women's bowling, women's volleyball, and men's tennis programs were honored with NCAA Public Recognition Awards for displaying excellence in academics.

"I would like to congratulate our women's bowling, women's volleyball, and men's tennis programs on earning NCAA Public Recognition Awards. Being ranked in the top-10 percent in the country is a testament to our student-athletes dedication to their academics. It is a great honor for our student-athletes, coaches, and staff and I applaud them for it," said Director of Athletics Irma Garcia.

The NCAA has recognized more than 1,300 programs from 321 schools for academic excellence after they scored in the top 10 percent of their sports in the most recent Academic Progress Rate results. The APR is an annual scorecard of academic achievement calculated for all Division I sports teams. The most recent APRs are multiyear rates based on scores from the 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 academic years.

"Congratulations to the programs earning Public Recognition Awards for their commitment to academic success," NCAA President Mark Emmert said. "The number of perfect scores this year is an indication that schools and student-athletes are setting high bars for achievement, and we are proud that they are continuing to succeed academically as well as athletically."

The women's bowling team has earned the honor six times under head coach Dawn Gugliaro. The latest achievement marks the fifth year in a row that the Terrier bowlers have scored in the top 10 percent of their sport. Men's tennis claimed the award for the fifth time, and it was the third-straight year that the Terriers took home the honor. Women's volleyball was recognized for the second time in program history and the first time since 2012-13.
