St. Francis Brooklyn graduate transfer Jan Godfrey Seno was victorious in his two qualifying bracket matches at the 2021 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Men's Northeast Regional, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania this past weekend. By virtue of his two wins, Seno qualified for the main draw, where he was joined by his Terrier teammate, sophomore Gustavo Pinho.
Seno's Thursday began against Gabe Busato from Monmouth University in the morning round of the qualifying bracket. Seno bested Busato, 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker), 6-0, to advance to the second round in the afternoon. There, he was matched against one of the 16 seeded players in the draw, Princeton University's Alan Kam. Seno took the early advantage, winning the first set by a score of 6-4. Kam answered with a 6-1 win in the second set, forcing a tiebreaker, where Seno prevailed by a 10-8 score to win the match.
Seno advanced to Friday afternoon's main draw first round, where he faced Teodors Pukse from NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson University. Pukse came away with a 6-4, 6-2 straight set victory.
Pinho, meanwhile, bypassed the qualifying rounds and faced Dartmouth College's Alex Knox Jones, who earned his place in the main draw by winning two qualifying matches, on Friday. Pinho defeated Jones in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, to continue on to Saturday, where he was matched up against Karl Poling from Princeton University, a top 100 ranked player in college tennis. Poling prevailed in this match, 7-5, 6-0.
The Women's Tennis Team prepares for the final match of the Fall season this Friday afternoon as they travel to West Long Branch, N.J. where they will take on the Hawks of Monmouth at 3pm. The Terriers look to build off a strong performance from Freshman Yeva Baziv who brought home two victories in her match at Wagner last week.
The contest marks the 6th and final match of the Fall season for the Terriers.
