Emmitsburg, MD - A quick penalty kick converted by Hailey Russell gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead less than a minute into this afternoon's match. The Terriers continued to add to that lead throughout the remainder of the match and defeated the Mountaineers, 4-0.
Less than a minute into the match, the Terriers found the back of the net from a penalty kick after the Mountaineers were called for a handball in the box off a corner kick taken by Isabelle Gollette.
The Terriers quickly added to their lead in the 13'. Lauren Schultz fought off a defender and drove through the center of the field to then find teammate Barbara Zagonyi who cut the ball past her defender and took a shot from 20 yards out which slid past the Mountaineers goalkeeper.
St. Francis continued to push the pace on the attack throughout the first half. A free kick was awarded to the squad just outside the box in the 38'. Margaret Motolese stepped to the spot and calmly drilled a shot to the upper right past the Mountaineers goalkeeper.
The Terriers took a 3-0 lead into halftime and held a steady advantage on shots recording 8 to the Mountaineers 2.
The Terriers weren't done on the scoreboard yet. 8' into the second half, Isabelle Gollete put another cross into the box and this time found the head of Margaret Motolese who popped one over the goaltenders head. The Terriers took a 4-0 lead and held steady through the final 32 minutes of the match.
St. Francis recorded 14 shots on net and Klil Keshwar recorded 4 saves in the contest.
The Terriers return home to Brooklyn Bridge Park on Sunday to face the #2 seed in the NEC, FDU at 11am.
