Men's Soccer Draws With UMass Lowell on Opening Day

Brooklyn Heights, N.Y. – The defending Northeast Conference Champion St. Francis Brooklyn men's soccer team and the UMass Lowell River Hawks played to a 1-1 draw Thursday afternoon at Brooklyn Bridge Park Pier 5. The Terriers and River Hawks each moved to 0-0-1. 
How it Happened 
  • UMass Lowell jumped ahead 1-0 on a goal in the 21st minute by Reziq Banihani.
  • The away team lead 1-0 at the end of the first half. 
  • In the 63rd minute, senior Harald Sollund had a chance punched away from point-blank range. 
  • SFBK knotted the score, 1-1, in the 72nd minute. Fifth Year Ivan Tapuskovic headed in a cross from senior Sokol Ymeraj
  • The Terriers, who outshot UMass Lowell 5-2 in the second stanza, generated a chance to take the lead in the 78th minute, sophomore Ramchwy Saint Vill rang a shot off the post. 
  • The River Hawks best look to go ahead happened in the 83rd minute as Sancho Maroto Tobias hit the cross bar. 
  • In the first extra session, the teams did not record a shot. 
  • Freshman Samid Akanni generated three chances for the Terriers, who outshot the River Hawks 11-7 in the match, in the second overtime. 
  • Sophomore David Santiago made one save for SFBK.

The Terriers travel to play La Salle Monday, August 30. The match with the Explorers is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
