SOMERSET, NJ – St. Francis College Brooklyn men's basketball senior guard
Chauncey Hawkins was named a unanimous selection to the 2020-21 Preseason All-NEC Team as announced by the league office during Virtual Media Day. The Terriers were picked fifth in the Preseason Coaches' Poll.
"We are extremely proud of Chauncey for being named a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-NEC Team. Chauncey exemplifies what it means to be a student-athlete and has accomplished a great deal during his time on Remsen Street. We are looking forward to him having a great senior year and wish him continued success," said men's basketball Head Coach
Glenn Braica.
During the 2019-20 season, Hawkins collected a number of accolades that amplified his success on the court and in the classroom. During his junior season, he was named to the All-NEC Third Team and tabbed to the NEC Academic Honor Roll. Hawkins was one of 11 student-athletes in the nation and just the second Terrier in program history selected to the Division I-AAA Athletics Directors Association (DI-AAA ADA) Scholar-Athlete Team and earned NABC Honors Court distinction. Additionally, he was a finalist for the NEC Male Student-Athlete of the Year award.
Hawkins averaged 15.1 points, 3.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.8 steals per game in 31 games for the Terriers. He ranked eighth in the NEC in scoring, eighth in assists per game, seventh in free-throw percentage (81.7%), tied for fourth in steals per game, and was tied for the 10
th-best assist-to-turnover ratio (1.4) in the conference. In the Terriers' final regular season game, a win at Central Connecticut State on February 29, Hawkins scored a career-high 38 points. He shot 8-of-20 from the field, 3-of-7 from three-point range, and 19-of-20 from the free-throw line. The 19 made free-throws tied the program record and were the third-most in a game in NEC history.
The guard joined the Terriers' 1,000 Point Club on March 4, in the NEC Quarterfinals at Robert Morris. Hawkins became the 33
rd member of St. Francis' 1,000 Point Club and currently has 1,005 career points.
