Former Terriers’ standout Jamaal Womack ’09 is entering his eighth season as a member of Glenn Braica’s staff. With Womack on board, the program has reached the NEC Tournament in five out of his six seasons. The 23 wins in 2014-15 tied a school record and the team made their first postseason appearance since 1963. In 2018-19, the Terriers returned to the postseason with Womack on staff as they earned a bid to the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT) for the first time in program history.
Womack has earned the reputation as a young and energetic recruiter, having played a major role in helping the Terriers bring in several talented recruits. He has played an integral role in the recruitment of a number of local and international players. Womack has worked extensively with the frontcourt players over the past two seasons. His hard work has aided in the development of several frontcourt players, including forwards Jalen Cannon and Amdy Fall. Cannon was named the 2014-15 NEC Player of the Year and Fall earned back-to-back NEC Defensive Player of the Year awards (2014-15 & 2015-16).
Prior to joining the Terriers’ sideline Womack served as a coach for local AAU powerhouse PSA Cardinals in the Bronx, NY from 2009-11. While coaching for the Cardinals, Womack guided his 2016 class to a third-place finish in the 2012 AAU Nationals and ended the year second in the national rankings. He also assisted in the tutelage of the 2015 class during the 2012-13 season, and coached several high Division I caliber players, while competing on the competitive Nike EYBL circuit. Womack also coached at Brooklyn Friends High School from 2011-13.
After graduating, Womack spent the 2009 preseason playing in Finland’s 1st Division. He later signed a contract to compete in southern Italy in the C-series for VIS Reggio Calabria. Womack flourished there, leading the league twice in a row in scoring. While averaging over 27.0 points per game in his second season, Womack led the club to a league Championship which helped moved them up to a higher division. Womack also took home League MVP honors for the Championship series.
A fiery leader on the court, Womack was a starter all four of his seasons playing with the Terriers and served as captain for three seasons (06-09). Womack is a member of the Terriers’ 1,000 Point Club, and was 15th on St. Francis’ all-time scoring list with 1,153 career points at the time of his graduation. Upon graduation, Womack ranked second all-time in made threes (220), sixth in assists (312), and eighth in steals (148).
Womack’s collegiate career-high was 31 points against Robert Morris, drilling a Terriers’ single-game record nine treys on February 17, 2007. He averaged a career-best 12.1 points as a junior in 2007-08, and converted 72 trifectas that season. A leader off the court as well, Womack was voted as President of the student Body in 2008-09. This marked the first time in school history a student-athlete held this prestigious position. Womack was also selected to attend the NCAA Student Leadership Conference in 2008 as he represented the entire Terriers’ athletic department.
Prior to arriving on Remsen Street, Womack enjoyed a standout two-year career at Our Savior Lutheran High School. During his junior campaign he averaged a staggering 41.0 points per game, which included a career-high 60 points. That mark is tied for the 18th highest output in New York State history. During his senior season, Womack averaged 32.0 points, six assists, and four rebounds per game. He won his second consecutive PSAL MVP Award that season. He also led his team to a conference Championship as a senior and was the first player in school history to reach 1,000 points in a two-year span. He was selected to the NY Daily News Second Team All-City squad and was a First Team All-State selection (A Division).
