Men’s and Women’s Track Compete with Split Squad at Jim Barber/Jack Maloney Invitational

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - With a split squad in Connecticut, the St. Francis Brooklyn men's and women's track and field team competed at the Jim Barber/Jack Maloney Invitational, hosted by Southern Connecticut State. 

The women scored a fifth place finish in the meet.

Maria Grijalva picked up the team's highest finish of the day, taking second in the 3000m run, finishing in 11:26.16. Esther Richardson took fourth in the event (12:40.91).

Shayla John was the Terriers next highest finisher on the track, taking third (1:07.81) in the 400m dash.

In the 100m hurdles, Jessica Monye scored a fourth place finish with an 18.84 time.

SFBK took top fifteen finishes in the other sprint races on Saturday. Jennesy Diaz (13.03) took seventh and Kalifa Jordan (13th) took 14th in the 100m dash. Zhoey Starkey (28.47) closed the 200m dash in 14th place. Jonna Pierce took seventh (2:37.16) in the 400m dash

The Terrier jumpers continued to find their way in the top ten on Saturday. Tolulope Atolagbe took third in the long jump (5.25m) and triple jump (11.07m). Monye reached seventh (10.48m) in the triple jump and John (9.91m) finished ninth. 

While the men did not post a team score, they recorded three top fifteen finishes. 

Nicholas Mejia finished 12th (54.01) in the 400m dash and 14th (24.01) in the 200m dash. Warrick McInnis claimed 11th in the shotput finals with a top throw of 12.30m.

NEXT UP: The Terriers head to Emmitsburg, Mary. to compete in the Northeast Conference Championships, May 6-8.
