FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's bowling team commenced the 2022-2023 season on Saturday at the Bowl For A Cure Tournament, hosted by Sacred Heart University at Nutmeg Bowl in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Saturday's competition consisted of five-game total pinfall Baker format matches, and the Terriers were able to come away with their first win of the campaign in the day's second match.
Sacred Heart 883, St. Francis Brooklyn 820
The season began with the Terriers facing the host Sacred Heart Pioneers. St. Francis capped off the match with a fine 187 game, which featured a string of four strikes starting in frame number four. Freshman Carly Wu and junior Laura McConnon each filled eight of their ten frames over the course of the five-game Baker match.
St. Francis Brooklyn 778, Bryant 748
St. Francis topped the Bulldogs of Bryant in the day's second round, picking up their first victory of the season. McConnon filled nine of ten frames, and freshman leadoff Angelia Lubrano filled eight of ten in the winning effort.
Caldwell 865, St. Francis Brooklyn 810
The Terriers opened their third match of the day against the Cougars of Caldwell by taking a 29 pin lead after two games, before Caldwell's 218 in game three turned the match in their favor. Senior Heather Waters filled nine of her ten frames from the anchor position, while Lubrano filled eight of her ten frames.
Molloy 863, St. Francis Brooklyn 745
The Terriers dropped their final matchup of the afternoon to the Molloy Lions. They did roll their high game of the day in the third game, posting a 198 score, which was capped by a string of four strikes by Wu, McConnon, and a tenth-frame double by Waters.
Due to an uneven number of teams, the Terriers drew a bye in the fifth round and did not complete the round.
