SOMERSET, NJ – The St. Francis College Brooklyn men's soccer team earned the Northeast Conference (NEC) Fall Team Sportsmanship Award as announced by the league office on Thursday. It marks the first time in program history that the Terriers' men's soccer program took home the accolade.
 
"We appreciate the league and the teams for recognizing us with this honor. Sportsmanship is an important part of the game, and I am proud that we have demonstrated exemplary character on and off the field this season," said Terriers' men's soccer Head Coach Tom Giovatto.
 
The men's soccer team finished the 2019 campaign (7-6-2) and posted a (5-2-2) record on their home field this past season. The Terriers had a trio of student-athletes take home All-NEC honors in the Fall.
 
Junior defender Yoann Assoumin was tabbed to the All-NEC First Team, senior midfielder Julien Remiti was selected to the All-NEC Second Team, and sophomore forward El Mahdi Youssoufi took home a pair of honors as he was an All-NEC Second Team and NEC All-Rookie selection. Assoumin and Remiti were named to All-NEC Teams for the second year in a row.
 
Instituted by league Presidents in 2008, the awards are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria.
 
"The NEC Council of Presidents are fully committed to the values of good sportsmanship and competing with integrity," said Noreen Morris, NEC Commissioner. "I'm proud to congratulate the coaches and student-athletes from these five institutions for being recognized by their peers as the teams that best epitomized those values."
