FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, IL - The St. Francis Brooklyn women's bowling team won two of three best-of-seven Baker format matches on Sunday during the final day of competition at the McKencdree Bearcat Open in Fairview Heights, Illinois. The Terriers finished the weekend in ninth place out of 18 teams with an 8-5 record.
St. Francis Brooklyn 4, Tusculum University 2
The day's first match saw the Terriers bowl a 200 in game one, but fall short. After that, St. Francis won three consecutive games, posting scores of 188, 215 and 190. Tusculum captured game five to keep the match going, before a 213-190 win by the Terriers in the sixth game closed it out. Sophomore Taylor Waglione and junior Kimmi D'Ottavio each filled 11 of their 12 frames during the match.
University of Alabama-Birmingham 4, St. Francis Brooklyn 2
The Blazers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the day's second match. St. Francis bounced back with a pair of victories to make it close, but fell in game six to UAB's 197 score. Senior Taylor Smith filled nine of her ten frames after entering the match in game two.
St. Francis Brooklyn 4.5, Tusculum University 2.5
In the ninth place match, a rematch of the day's first encounter, the teams matched 176 scores in game one. Tusculum won game two, and then the Terriers rolled a 194 in game three to even the score. Tusculum won game four, and the Terriers again knotted the match at 2.5 each with a 221 in game five. Game six was a 210-201 Terrier win, and the match ended with St. Francis posting a 223-167 victory. St. Francis had only four open frames over the final three games in rolling consecutive 200+ scores. Junior Lexis Ortiz and D'Ottavio each filled 13 of a possible 14 frames.
