25 Fourth Quarter Points Not Enough As Terriers Lose Close One In Connecticut

FAIRFIELD, CT – A furious late rally was not enough as the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers dropped one to the Sacred Heart Pioneers, who escaped with a 66-60 victory, in a tightly contested Northeast Conference game.
 
The loss puts the Terriers at (11-15, 7-8 NEC) on the season heading into their final road game of the regular season on Monday. In defeat, the Terriers, who trailed by as many as 17 points, put forth a substantial push in the final minutes, coming within one possession, but were denied of stealing the victory.

The Terriers will remain in fourth place in the NEC heading into Monday. 

The Game: 
The Pioneers opened up with a 9-2 run, which grew into a 23-10 lead to end the first quarter. To begin the second period, the Terriers scored four of the first six points, but the Pioneers quickly got back into gear, carrying a 40-23 lead into halftime.
 
Coming out of the break, Alex Delaney (two three's) and Jade Johnson combined for nine straight points, all from deep, cutting the Sacred Heart lead to 40-32, forcing a timeout with 6:30 to go in the third.
 
A 9-1 Pioneer run re-opened the deficit, putting the Terriers down 49-33 with as little as 2:20 to go. The teams traded buckets prior to the conclusion of the period, which left the Pioneers ahead 51-35.
 
In the fourth, the Terriers outscored the Pioneers 25-15, and were down by as little as three points with 19.3 seconds to go. The Pioneers were able to hold off the late Terrier rally with some key conversions from the free throw line in the game's waning seconds.
 
The Terriers:
Jade Johnson led with 15 points. Shooting 2-of-3 from three, 5-for-6 from the foul line and 4-of-8 from the field.
 
Freshman forward Abby Anderson finished with 10 points, tying a career-high set back on January 15 against Wagner. Anderson shot 4-of-8 and also pulled down seven rebounds, tying a personal-best.
 
Additionally, Amy O'Neill scored four points, dished out a club-best seven assists, and came away with four rebounds. 
 
Sacred Heart:
Erin Storck scored 17 first half points, and ultimately ended the day with 21, a game-high. Candice Leatherwood chipped in 15 points.
 
Next Up:
On Monday, the Terriers' final regular season road game will be played at Fairleigh Dickinson University against the Knights at 7.
