BROOKLYN HEIGHTS, NY – St. Francis Brooklyn women's basketball head coach Linda Cimino announced the additions of Nevena Dimitrijevic and Cayln Richardson. Dimitrijevic and Richardson both will join the Terriers women's basketball program for the 2019-20 season.
Dimitrijevic is a 5-foot-3, point guard from Kragujevac, Serbia. She attended high school at Druga Kragujevacka Gimnazija in Serbia and also spent time at the Canterbury School on the Canary Islands of Spain and played club for The Academy Spain, which is now known as CBA.
"Having been associated with highly-regarded coach Rob Orellana, we know we are getting a player who is extremely competitive and committed to the game," said Cimino.
The guard averaged 20.3 points and 4.3 assists per game last season. Dimitrijevic won a silver medal as a member of the Serbian national team in the U18 European Championship in Hungary. She was named the MVP of the U15 Serbian Championship. Throughout the Serbian Championship, she totaled 15.8 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
"With Nevena Dimitrijevic, we are bringing in a young woman with so much international experience," noted Cimino. "She has played in the European Championships, and the Canarias Championships. She is a high IQ point guard and in the open court, she can not only create opportunities for herself but can facilitate and find her teammates. She has tremendous court vision and is an outstanding three-point shooter."
In the classroom, she received special recognition in Spanish and was praised by teachers for her teamwork and dedication to her studies. Dimitrijevic earned a diploma for working with primary students.
Richardson is a 5-foot-6, guard from Colonial High School. The native of Orlando, FL was named the Most Improved Player her junior and is a four-year member of the varsity girls' basketball team at Colonial. Richardson has averaged 9.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 steals, and 2.7 assists per game.
"We're excited to sign Cayln, a high-level athlete who is a well-rounded player, excelling on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court. As a defender, she is tasked with defending the opponent's best player. She's extremely athletic and will fit into our system well because she can shoot, run the floor, and is an intelligent player. Cayln comes from a winning high school program in which her mom, Cindy, is the coach and she also plays at the highest AAU level in the EYBL circuit," said Cimino.
She is a seven-time District Champion and three-time Metro Champion. Richardson's teams have compiled a 68-23 record with her on the roster. She has played AAU basketball for CFE EYBL Nike Elite.
